A Healthy Approach to Pain Relief
Most people seeking our help do so for the
relief of pain. Pain can last for weeks, months and even years
if untreated, and can interfere with every aspect of a sufferer’s
life. Most joint or muscle pain is best managed if treated
by a physiotherapist as soon as possible - so don’t delay.
Early and accurate diagnosis facilitates speedy recovery and
a return to more normal function.
The physiotherapists and reception staff
at Berwick Physiotherapy are sensitive to the impact of pain,
and will attempt to make an appointment for you as soon as
possible. Sympathy and understanding are important aspects
of assessing and diagnosing your condition, explaining what
the exact problem is and planning a treatment program for you.
Your own input into your management program is welcomed.
We aim first to relieve your pain, and then
teach you to prevent or minimise recurrence. This may include
advice and instruction on such vital issues as good posture,
safe lifting techniques and regular sensible exercise where
appropriate.

How We Can Help You
Physiotherapy offers relief of aches, pain
and stiffness by using a combination of joint and neural mobilisation,
joint manipulation, massage, electrotherapy, exercises and
postural correction. These give proven relief from conditions
such as:
Back Pain - 80% of the population will suffer
back pain at one stage of their lives. The cause may be the
discs, facet joints, muscles, or nerves due to injury, poor
posture, weak muscles or arthritis. Treatment focuses on pain
relief, regaining normal mobility and restoring normal strength
to prevent re-injury.
Sciatica- pain which radiates down the leg
from the back.
Headache and Neck pain- joints in the neck,
upper back or shoulder joint itself. Treatment focuses on firstly
identifying the structures at fault, and then regaining normal
mobility and strength.
Tennis Elbow and Arm Pain - pain on the outside
of the arm. May be due to local muscles or referred from the
neck. Accurate assessment is essential to identify the exact
cause.
Knee and Ankle Sprains- common sports injuries.
Arthritis – treatment aims to relieve
pain and improve mobility and strength.

Manipulative Physiotherapy
This area of special interest, focussing
on the care of the spine, is well catered for at Berwick
Physiotherapy, with five of our Physiotherapists having completed
a Graduate Diploma in Manipulative Physiotherapy. Essentially
a “hands on” form of treatment, manipulative
physiotherapy involves joint mobilisation/manipulations as
well as muscle stretches. Our clinic also places a heavy
emphasis on prevention of injury, exercise and aims to
facilitate self-management.
